Once Upon a Time…
a little Black girl had very busy parents who gave her tons of art supplies to keep her occupied. But they couldn’t imagine that her busyness would evolve into a business!
Now
With a specialty in drawing little Black girls in all shapes and sizes, Melquea Smith is a queer, multi-award-winning children’s book illustrator and service provider for authors.
As a kid, Melquea struggled with being accepted.
So now she honors her little self by showing up joyfully and authentically to encourage every beautiful human to do the same.
When not illustrating, you’ll find her watching the newest cartoons, anime, and animated movies, learning all about Japan, speaking Spanish to her cat Kilala, and giving her other cat Bumblebee belly rubs.
Whenever she’s stressed, she copes by playing Chillhop, painting her nails, and planning her next trip. ✈️
Last country she was in: Korea 🇰🇷
Next country she’ll be in: …actually, she’ll be stateside this year! (for now 👀… ) Maybe Switzerland
